Daily aches and pains in your neck, shoulders and lower back can be caused by poor posture. It can affect you in your workplace and beyond. Perhaps your body is just too tired to hold itself in the correct position any more. Or perhaps it has been repeating the same movement patterns for too long to be able to move properly. Most problems associated with bad posture can be treated, and your body can learn to move properly again.
Have You Got Bad Posture?
We have a lot of patients who come in, saying “I know, I have bad posture”. In our modern lives, unfortunately we spend quite a lot of time sitting, and no-where near as much time moving as we should do.
Let’s think about it this way – If you are a fitness lover, we’ll say you do 1.5 hours of exercise, 5 days per week. Total hours spent exercising therefore is 7.5 hours on a weekly basis.
Now, let’s also say, that you work at a computer, for 40 hours per week, and drive 30 minutes each way to get to work, also 5 days per week. That’s a total time for sitting (or being relatively static) of 45 hours, give or take.
Now take the 45 hours of sitting, minus 7.5 hours of exercise and this leaves us with a total STILL of 37.5 hours sitting per week. Are you with me? It’s a lot of time out of our week. Especially if we are sitting with bad posture.
